Miyamoto Shares More on Mario 3DS

In more Shigeru Miyamoto news: Mario 3DS. Speaking in London today like in the previous article, Miyamoto has described the upcoming Mario title for the 3DS as a cross between Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. Nintendo Announces 3D Super Mario and Other Features for 3DS

What a surprise, Nintendo announced at today’s Game Developers Conference that it is working on a new 3D Super Mario game for the 3DS handheld. It will likely be a full 3D game rather than a 2D game with 3D backgrounds like New Super Mario Bros, because it is being developed by the same team behind both Super Mario Galaxy games for the Wii.

Super Mario Sunshine was not a bad game.  It was fun and had comparable graphics for its time.  But it didn’t really match up to the hype of being the next “Mario” game.  Meaning it didn’t live up to its groundbreaking, genre redefining predecessor, Super Mario 64.  Sunshine’s gameplay revolved more around the water backpack on Mario’s back than it was about Mario’s acrobatic prowess.  It’s little wonder that people felt let down by it.  For those people, and anyone who owns a Wii really, Super Mario Galaxy is just what the doctor ordered.
