As expected the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise will appear on consoles later this year. This morning we got official word from publisher Activision that the game will officially debut on November 9, 2010.
Activision and Bungie Join Forces
(PRNewswire) Activision and Halo developer Bungie have entered an exclusive 10 year partnership. “Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices.” Bungie still retains its independence and is still the owner of its intellectual property. This is Bungie’s first partnership since splitting with Microsoft in 2007.

Funny how things come full circle. Yahoo! Games reports that video game pioneer Nolan Bushnell is back with the company he founded nearly 40 years ago, on Atari’s Board of Directors.
News of the Obvious: Activision Likely to Close Infinity Ward
As key staffers from Infinity Ward leave en masse and lawsuits fly back and forth between the studio and Activision, Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey believes the Modern Warfare developer will close for good, according to Industrygamers.
38 Infinity Ward Employees Sue Activision
The war between Infinity Ward and Activision rages on. In a separate suit from the ones filed by Jason West and Vince Zampella, 38 plaintiffs calling themselves the “Infinity Ward Employee Group” (IWEG) are seeking a large amount of unpaid royalties from Activision, according to a report from G4. The suit cites breach of contract and violation of California labor code among other allegations.

“Violent” Video Games Have Been Targeted for Termination
Well, not really, but yesterday it was announced that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear California’s appeal in regards to the law implementing further restrictions on the sale of Mature rated games to minors. Personally I will say that the ESRB isn’t a perfect system, but that ultimately the burden should fall on the parent.

Last week only had 1 Xbox 360 game coming out and about 10 games for the Nintendo consoles. This week, we’ve got the slight opposite. Releases for Nintendo consoles have drastically dropped while the 360 and the PS3 have shot up to 5 releases. What’s that? Boring stats don’t interest you? Well stick around anyways. There’s a game coming out this week that might perk up your ears… among other things.
RED STEEL 2 Review
Red Steel 2 is a complete overhaul of its disappointing predecessor. Presented in smoothly animated, vibrant cel-shaded graphics, it ditches the Yakuza setting for some alternate Old West inhabited by ronin, biker gangs, and near future sci-fi technology. The nameless protagonist is modeled after Clint Eastwood’s Man with No Name archetype popularized in spaghetti westerns, just a lot more ninja-like.
Sega Reorganizes in the West
Sega West is undergoing some major restructuring of its business in North America and Europe. Industrygamers spoke with Sega West president Mike Hayes, who confirmed that 36 employees in San Francisco and 37 employees in London have been laid off. Sega will in turn focus on the growing digital sector. The San Francisco office will serve as a the Digital division, while Europe will continue publishing traditional video games.
