Mass Effect 2 Review
February 18, 2010
Bioware has a very ambitious plan for the Mass Effect trilogy. Namely, they’re aiming to make a trilogy in the truest sense of the word. They want to tell a story so big that one game alone isn’t going to be enough. They even want to tell side stories within the universe that don’t start and end in one game. But it still has to be a game, and like any good game, it can’t discount the player. They must have their part in shaping the story. These are all big aspirations, but with Mass Effect 2, it’s starting to get much closer to reality.
Bayonetta Review
February 11, 2010
I believe Captain Jack Sparrow of Pirates of Caribbean fame said it best. Another character, upon seeing his little improvised “catapult”, told Jack that he was mad. “Thank goodness for that,” replied Jack “Because if I wasn’t, this’d probably never work.” That was right before he fires off the canon that basically propelled him through the air back to his ship. The lesson? Sometimes crazy works, and Bayonetta just runs with it. Whether you’re watching a cutscene, pulling of one of the many combos that Bayonetta has in her arsenal, killing bosses about a hundred times bigger than her, or just skating around on her ice skates, Bayonetta is desperately trying to get a picture of herself into the dictionary under “crazy”. But who am I argue reason when crazy just works so well.
BROTHERS IN ARMS: HELL’S HIGHWAY Review
January 12, 2010
Yeah, I know: there are so many WWII shooters out there that it’s hard to tell them apart. But the Brothers in Arms series, with the latest installment being Hell’s Highway, is different enough to distinguish it from all the rest of the other Nazi killers on the market. The major draw here is the use of fire and maneuver tactics. The key to success-and survival- is the smart execution of the Four F’s: Find, Fix, Flank, and Finish. As in previous installments, simply running and gunning is the quickest way to get your entire squad killed. Superior tactics is more important than raw firepower.
TEKKEN 6 Review
November 16, 2009
Between Namco Bandai’s two fighting franchises: Soul Calibur and Tekken, I’ve always preferred Soul Calibur. I like the full 3D movement and more natural, instinctual feel of it. Tekken is more dial-a-combo and is also more accurately a 2.5D fighter. However, that in no way detracts from the excellence that is Tekken 6. It is deep and refined in its own combo-happy way.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Review
November 12, 2009
Do you remember when the Xbox 360 first came out, and the one game that made the 360 worth buying was Call of Duty 2? I remember playing that game well into the morning hours for a good week. I couldn’t believe just how good the game looked, and the way the game immersed you into World War II was just unreal. At that time, I honestly didn’t think that games could look any better. Of course, a couple of Gears of Wars and a Call of Duty 4 later, games did look better, but I’ll never forget that feeling the first time I walked around a little French hamlet and just being in awe of all the details on the houses and the streets. Or that part when the Germans were storming a Russian building and the Russians inside starts screaming and shouting to steel themselves for the assault. Why am I bringing this up? Because, I felt it again. After all these years and all the games that came out in between, I am once again find myself in awe.
Madden NFL 10 Review
November 4, 2009
If you can’t get enough football like me, then no doubt you’ve already gotten you hands on NCAA Football 10, and now it’s time to graduate to the big boys. That’s right, what should now be considered a yearly rite of passage for football gamers everywhere is back. Madden NFL 10 the King of football Sims returns, but unfortunately again it feels like we are getting “taxation without enough representation” from our king, and that’s so not cool.
MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 2 Review
October 30, 2009
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 delves into the Civil War storyline, pitting heroes led by Captain America against heroes led by Iron Man. What caused this rift between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark? A difference of opinion.
BLAZBLUE:CALAMITY TRIGGER Review
October 6, 2009
What does BlazBlue even mean? I have no idea. I’m not even sure what a “Calamity Trigger” is, but it sounds like triggering it will lead to something really bad. What I do know is that this is the title of a very kick-ass, very Japanese (meaning heavy on the quirky anime stuff) 2D fighter from the makers of Guilty Gear.
Batman: Arkham Asylum Review
August 29, 2009
For my fifth Birthday all I wanted the Batman Power Wheels tricycle. I saw the commercials, I bought into the hype, I couldn’t wait to get on it and be the Dark Knight. I got my dream come true as Mom and Pops came through with the gift, but oddly enough the second best present I ever got, I got that night and it seems its all lead up to this. The second present my friends was Nintendo Entertainment System bundles with Super Mario Bros. 2. Here I am 20 years later still rocking the games, still reppin’ the Bats, so Arkham Asylum no doubt a fantasy turn reality. And friends I couldn’t dream up a better Batman game.
UFC 2009 UNDISPUTED Review

UFC 2009: Undisputed marks the first time there has been a UFC licensed game since 2004’s UFC: Sudden Impact. I consider myself a casual fan of mixed martial arts, especially since the recent emergence of Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida. From that you can guess which fighter I’ll usually choose. Undisputed successfully captures the complexity and intricacy of this wildly popular and fast growing sport, so much so that it takes about as much dedication as training to be an MMA fighter.
