Discuss This Game

The seminal RPG of the Super NES gloriously returns on the DS. This revered RPG once tried to reach new audiences on the PS1, but most of the hardcore fans decried it for the loading times and the fact that they changed some of the music.  The DS version has none of those problems.  This is exactly the Super NES version that everyone fell in love with over a decade ago.  The most telling thing about this game’s brilliance all those years ago is the fact that it’s still good even under today’s standards.  The battle system remains fun.  The music, even though it didn’t change from the SNES version at all, is still really good.  The story made only better with the time travel twist.  Of course, it wouldn’t be a port without some additions.

These additions include a touch screen control interface, which is entirely optional, a whole new dungeon, and a Pokemon-esque monster collection/raising minigame.  The additions don’t add anything too exciting, but more importantly, they don’t detract from Chrono Trigger either.  This is one blast from the past that absolutely no one, save maybe those who hates RPGs to its very core, should miss.

Pros: A perfect port of a masterpiece.  Finally, a game that stands the test of time.

Cons: Some text is a little smaller than it should be.

Final Verdict: Enshrine It
