What Is It?
Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny is a 3D weapons based fighting game. It uses a lot of the features from Soul Calibur IV, including character designs and backgrounds. It introduces two new guest characters. One of them appears to be a 19th century style gentleman named Dampierre. Wearing a top hat and a long handlebar moustache, he wields two short blades. The other is Kratos from Sony’s God of War series.
What We Saw/Played:
The demo I played was just as smooth and intuitive as any console Soul Calibur. Holding the PSP is a little awkward for fighting games, since I play arcade style using index and middle finger on the face buttons. Otherwise, I was able to pull off combos with the eight characters that were available: Siegfried, Hilde, Mitsurugi, Cassandra, Nightmare, Raphael, Astaroth, and Maxi. Both Dampierre and Kratos were on the selection screen but were unavailable. What a tease. They might as well have been working the booths.
It’s Soul Calibur. And it works on the PSP. Kratos. Nuff said.
