PS Vita Won’t Be Coming This Year

Despite many gamers high-hopes and a slew of rumors regarding the release of the next hand-held gaming device from Playstation, the Vita will not be coming to America or Europe this year.

Sony executive deputy president Kaz Hirai, in an interview with Associated Press Hirai said that the company is planning a “phased global rollout” which will begin in Japan at the end of this year. Although Hirai was sure to point out that there is no official launch date in Japan as of now. The Vita should hit American and European markets sometime early in 2012.

There was also a question of whether or not Sony was going to drop the price of the Vita after announcing that it would be priced at $250, the same as the 3DS at launch. After last weeks announcement that Nintendo would be dropping the price of their 3DS many customers wondered if Sony would respond in kind. Hirai said “We packed a lot into the device and made it very affordable. There is no need to lower the price just because someone else in the video game business decided to lower their price.”

Will it be worth the wait? We will just have to wait and see…

Sony’s Cross Media Bar user interface has never stood up to the Xbox Blades or the New Experience interface but this new gumball layout is ridiculous.

Not completely a surprise, but very disappointing for me as I’m highly anticipating its release. I’m sure Sony is as disappointed and their financials are going to take a beating.
